How much does a skylight cost to install in London?

The cost depends on the window size, the roof type and whether a new opening is needed. Replacing a like-for-like Velux is the most affordable job; a new flat roof window on an extension costs more because of the upstand and structural work. We give a fixed written quote after a survey.

Do I need planning permission for a skylight?

Usually not. Most skylights in England fall under permitted development if they do not project more than 150mm from the roof slope and do not sit higher than the highest part of the roof. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats often need consent, and we can advise before you apply.

How long does skylight installation take?

Most replacements take less than a day per window. A new skylight or flat roof window usually takes 1 to 2 days, depending on the roof structure and internal finishing.

Can you replace a Velux window without scaffolding?

Often, yes. Velux roof windows are designed to be installed from inside the room, so many like-for-like replacements need no scaffolding. We confirm access at the survey.

What is the difference between a skylight, a roof window and a rooflight?

The terms overlap. A roof window usually opens and sits in a pitched roof, like a Velux. A rooflight or skylight is often fixed or set into a flat roof. We install and replace all three.
